El Bombo is the only Spanish school in Kraków just for children. We don't teach adults: we specialise in children and teenagers. We teach Spanish in Spanish.
Our story
El Bombo – Spanish for children opened in 2017 as the first school in Kraków dedicated exclusively to teaching Spanish to children.
We started small, with classes in rented rooms in different parts of Kraków. We then spent almost a year in Salwator and, in January 2019, moved to our current home: the ground floor of a villa with a garden at ul. Salwatorska 22.
Step by step
- 2017At first we only taught preschool children, with the Niños Musicales method: a programme based on music, movement and natural immersion in the language. The classes are for children aged 2.5 to 6 and follow Anna Rattenbury's methodology.
- 2018We added courses for school-age children (7–12) and introduced the Colorín Colorado natural method. Since then we have taught Spanish in Spanish, as a partner school of the licensed programme created by Dorota Nieto-Kuczyńska and David Nieto.
- 2019We also started courses for teenagers aged 13 to 18, with the natural method and the Arcoíris coursebook.
Our team
The school was founded by Tamara Olko Torrealba, who taught every class herself for the first few months. Over time other teachers joined her, and today El Bombo is a team of experienced teachers and native speakers from Spain and South America who share the same thing: a love of the language and of working with children.
Where did the idea for El Bombo come from?
The idea came during maternity leave. Watching a small child absorb two languages naturally, starting to understand and to speak, inspired a place where children learn without pressure, with joy and curiosity about the world.
In Tamara's home, languages are part of everyday life: her husband, Igor, is Venezuelan and their children are growing up bilingual. That experience is the foundation of El Bombo's philosophy.
